In 2003 Donna opened the first Gymophobics, a facility which focuses exclusively on sedentary females with weight and figure problems. There are no treadmills, weights or primitive hydraulic machines at Gymophobics. The unique Gymophobics workout, called Resisted Tension, was developed by Donna and involves combining conventional Resistance exercise, using super smooth ‘air’ machines, with Isometrics (muscle tension) to achieve faster and more dramatic figure improvement than ‘normal’ exercise can provide.

As word quickly spread about the amazing results that could be achieved, more than 1,500 women enrolled in the first twelve months alone so in 2005 Donna decided to expand the concept by helping Franchisees to open their own Gymophobics under Licence.

Since then the Franchise has expanded to more than 35 venues throughout the UK and more than 40,000 women have already enrolled in the programme. Retention is far higher than the norm in conventional gyms, as women love the exceptional results, the VIP attention and the friendly, social atmosphere of a Gymophobics environment.

Starting your own business can be quite daunting with so many decisions to make, so many suppliers to find and so many legal & accounting issues to sort out. Add to that finding the right premises, dealing with planning applications, staff recruitment and staff training, all of which can add up to a giant headache for the uninitiated.

That’s why a Franchise is often seen as the best way to start in business.

Gymophobics is of course a proven concept and the support that we provide is considered by many to be well above that which most Franchisors can offer. We try to provide you with the kind of support that we would want ourselves if we were a Franchisee! It’s your own Business but you are never on your own.

Initially, we will be alongside you every step of the way to help you find the right premises and sort out planning applications, design and décor. We will help you to equip and furnish your Gym by helping you to obtain the best discounts going and we will help you to recruit the right people.

We will train you and your staff to the high standards that Gymophobics members have come to expect. We provide management training, membership sales training, marketing training and Instructor training and all this is topped up with regular one day training workshops and seminars throughout the year. Unlike most Franchises, all training is provided free.

Once your Gym is up and running, we will continue to support you with visits from our Franchise team. We will update you with weekly Newsletters and marketing Bulletins and we provide regional Franchise meetings around the country plus three national franchise meetings in Stafford each year. We will monitor your monthly figures and offer advice when needed and we will provide ongoing marketing support to boost your sales.

As a Franchisee you will have your own exclusive territory in which to operate.

To open a Gymophobics in an area of your choice, will cost on average between £35,000 and £45,000 (including the Initial Fee) depending on the cost of fitting out the premises that you find. If you are lucky, your premises may require little in the way of building work so painting and decorating may be all that is needed.
We can help you find the ideal premises which will be between 1,600 and 2,000 sq. feet on ground or first floor.

On payment of an Initial Fee you will be granted a Licence to trade as Gymophobics in an exclusive territory.

Once you are up and running your Licence Fee will cost you £50,000 + VAT over a five year period. This is paid in easy monthly installments over the full term of the Licence. This is a fixed cost and there are no other royalties or commissions to pay other than a small national marketing contribution which is currently £360 per annum. The Licence Fee is not performance based, so unlike most other Franchises, you will not have to pay more for being successful.
