FRANCHISOR AWARDS

SENIOR HOME INSTEAD CARE WIN HSBC AWARD FOR ENTERPRISE

Friday 24th July 2009

While the last 12 months have been a testing time for many businesses, some have proved more resilient than others, including Home Instead Senior Care.

Their success at managing risk and costs while encouraging growth and development was recognised at the recent British Franchise Association Franchisor of the Year Awards 2009, sponsored by Express Newspapers and HSBC, where Home Instead Senior Care was presented with the HSBC Award for Enterprise.
Managing director Trevor Brocklebank said: “We are immensely proud of the changes we have already made to the lives of thousands of older people and their families across the UK, and delighted to have won this award. It is an endorsement of all we have achieved and a huge motivator to everyone within our businesses. They have worked extremely hard to achieve our success and it is fantastic to see this publicly rewarded.”
Home Instead Senior Care provides a range of companionship, home help and personal care services to older people in their own home. The family network of locally owned franchise offices was developed to help families keep their aging parents, grandparents or friends in their home as they grow older.
Mr Brocklebank added: “The care industry is more recession resilient than most, however we have had to tighten our credit control processes. Conversely it has increased opportunities for our franchisees to expand into larger offices at much more competitive rents and increase marketing activities without having to increase expenditure in this area. We are expanding far more quickly than we initially planned due to increased volume and, more importantly, calibre of people enquiring to purchase a franchise.”
The awards, which recognise exceptional levels of insight and investment in key business areas, have clearly shown that even during a recession there are still many business success stories to be told.
Cathryn Hayes, head of franchising at HSBC says, “The HSBC Award for Enterprise finalists stand out from the crowd as franchisors. However the winner, Home Instead Senior Care has clearly developed creative business strategies to overcome some tough challenges, which otherwise would have hindered growth and development.  It has also demonstrated perseverance and determination, establishing more effective ways of running its business, which has resulted in increased volume of enquiries of people looking to purchase a franchise.”
Three finalists were shortlisted for the HSBC Award for Enterprise, and competing alongside aside the winners Home Instead Senior Care were Little Kickers and X-Press Legal Services. All had proven that as franchisors they have invested time and money into securing the future of their business and the many franchisee businesses making up their entire network.
