THE credit crunch may have hit many areas of business, but it hasn’t stopped budding entrepreneurs from embracing the opportunities offered by tried and tested business models of franchises.
According to the British Franchise Association 90 per cent of franchise businesses are trading profitably, which is why, in spite of the recession, Peter Cordwell decided the time was right to tackle a new challenge.
An experienced drainage technician, he has taken on the task of building up the business of Drain Doctor in Watford.
He said: “I looked at several franchise businesses and decided that Drain Doctor offered the best approach to support and customer service. As a franchisee I will be running my own business, but I’ll also have the back up of a national organisation.
“I am looking forward to developing my own business in a service-based industry that is relatively recession proof, because even in the downturn people with a plumbing emergency still need to call a plumber.”
