Last November, after a successful twelve-year career in HR, and with a young family, she wanted a new challenge that would fit in with family life.

“I’d always wanted my own business, but never had the confidence to do it,” she said.

Drawn to the concept of franchising, and the benefit of training and support that it offers, Ms Luke, 32, began researching the British Franchise Association website, where she discovered Popstars Academy, which provides dance classes and themed parties for children aged from four to 11, encompassing all types of music.

“I was interested in dance and children, so it sounded ideal. Once I met the franchise team I felt sure it was right for me, and there was an available franchise territory in Exeter where I live,” she said.

She launched her franchise this summer and runs two Academies in Exeter. She plans to open two more in January, and enjoys a growing second income stream from the Popstars Academy parties.

Ms Luke added: “It is a rewarding business in every sense of the word, especially when you see the children’s confidence grow.”
