AS a route into self employment, a franchise is a safer option than starting up on your own.
When IT support professional Keith Cooper was planning a change of direction and looking for the ideal franchise opportunity, it was leather repair specialist Furniture Clinic that ticked all the boxes.
The company offers leather cleaning, repair and restoration services for furniture, car interiors, clothing, handbags and shoes.
He said: “My first contact with them was as a customer, when I needed a leather suite repairing. At the time I was disillusioned with my job and toying with the idea of running my own business. I was very impressed with the quality of work and customer service from Furniture Clinic, and felt it was something I could get into.”
Following several visits to the Gateshead-based company Mr Cooper, 45, launched his van-based franchise in Canvey Island in Essex, in April this year.
His workload has steadily increased and he plans to move into premises and recruit an apprentice next year.
He said: “Moving from a job to being self employed is a huge step, but by choosing the right franchise, with excellent training and support, and the potential for growth, it was definitely the right one to take.”
Furniture Clinic has 15 franchises nationwide and is looking to recruit franchisees in all areas of the country.
