CLIVE Strangward left his role as logistics manager at catering equipment manufacturer, and with his wife Anna, bought the Peterborough Interlink parcel delivery franchise in 2002.
He said: “I’d always wanted to run my own ship; you can make things happen more quickly than when you’re an employee. I knew that Interlink had a strong brand and an excellent reputation for service quality, so I jumped at the chance to buy my own franchise.”
The couple now employs 16 people at the depot, operating nine routes in and around the city. When they first took on the business, it was collecting 300 parcels a day. This has now grown to around 2,000, while deliveries have risen by 100 per cent.
This success, says Mr Strangward, is down to the impressive technology provided by Interlink as well as their own personal touch.
He said: “Customers want to be kept informed at all times. And many shipments are time-critical, for example, the spare parts we deliver to field service engineers. It’s a challenging, fast-moving environment, but the rewards can be excellent if you have the commitment to succeed.”
