TAB PROVIDES ‘UNIQUE’ SERVICE, SAYS BRANDING GURU

Friday 13th May 2011

The Alternative Board (TAB) is unique among business support organisations in its ability to help the owners of small and medium-sized enterprises to achieve their personal goals, according to a Yorkshire business owner.

Ian Thompson, owner of Leeds-based Thompson Brand Managers, told TAB’s first UK members’ conference in Leeds, that the peer-support and business coaching organisation had helped him not only to improve the management of his company but also to achieve his personal vision for his life.

“I joined TAB two years ago, when it was first launched in the UK,” he said.  “During that time, membership of the founding board has had the most significant impact on my business and personal life.  It has helped me to become more focussed and, as a result, I now have more time to devote to achieving my personal vision.”

As well as having more time with his family, his personal goals included helping young designers to develop and engaging in more fulfilling work.

Other speakers at the event included Julie Harrison of Julie Harrison Consulting, who explained how understanding their own and other people’s behavioural styles can help members to achieve their personal and business goals, and Liz Cable of Reach Further, who used a specially-designed game to help  members to understand the benefits of social media.  It also demonstrated practical ways of using it to develop their businesses

In his concluding remarks, the Chairman of TAB (UK), Martin Allison, said that he had launched the organisation - with Managing Director Paul Dickinson and Operations Director Jo Clarkson - because they believed that TAB provided the services and tools needed by SMEs.

“Britain needs a vibrant and strong entrepreneurial and small business sector if it is to compete on the global stage,” he said.  “We recognised that there was an opportunity – while the country is recovering from recession - for the sort of peer advice provided by TAB.”
