Autosmart is the largest supplier of vehicle cleaning products to the car trade, manufacturing and selling a range of car valeting products through 110 area franchises.

In reaching their decision the judges were impressed by the level of commitment demonstrated to the franchise owners, including an increase in the number of coaching staff to provide regular one-to-one on the job mentoring and guidance, the manufacture of new ranges of better products and the negotiation of national business that was cascaded down to franchise territories.

Cathryn Hayes, head of franchising at HSBC, said: "Providing strategic support to franchisees is critical to being a good franchisor. As ever, judging the finalists was difficult but Autosmart demonstrated a level commitment to their franchise owners that really impressed us. They are a great example of how being innovative and not afraid to take risks to support franchisees can pay off."
