YOU have done your research, chosen a franchise that matches your skills and interests, and are ready to take the next step to becoming a franchisee by going through the formal interview process.
A key benefit of joining a franchise is the recognition and protection of the brand that you will be trading under.
In order to maintain brand strength and status, the franchisor must ensure that the whole network is working as it should and that franchisees are following the proven business model.
Before you can join a particular franchise, you will need to go through a recruitment process that will enable you and the franchisor to ask suitable questions and feel confident that you will be suited to each other.
Tom Endean, marketing manager at the British Franchise Association (bfa), said: “This process will vary through different brands, but face to face interviews and gaining a deeper understanding of you as a person; your aspirations; you capabilities and your attitude will all be common. Not only will the franchisor need to be enthused by your desire to work for the company and succeed, but they will also want to be sure that they are bringing on people who will follow the business model and won’t be looking to change it to what they think is best.”
The interview and assessment process also presents potential franchisees with an opportunity to interview the franchisor.
“You may be suitable for the business, but you need to be sure that the business is suitable for you,” said Mr Endean.
“Make sure you fully understand what is involved, and speak to existing franchisees. They can provide a real life insight into what is involved on a daily basis and what you can expect,” he added.
You will need to be patient, as these processes can take time. However this will give you time to think about raising the finance or even moving if you’re looking for a franchise that will be based in a new area, away from where you are.
