PET PROJECT’S A LABOUR OF LOVE AT OSCAR

Wednesday 15th July 2009

REDUNDANCY happens; sometimes for the better. For many people it is an opportunity to make a complete change of career without a lot of hassle in learning a new skill.

Tom Cartmale, from Stoke-on-Trent, qualified as a chef and spent almost 30 years in the catering industry, working in hotels and restaurants as well as industrial catering companies.

Change was forced upon him with redundancy; although he admits to being somewhat relieved as he had been losing heart in the industry.

He said: “At the age of 46 I was unemployed, facing a new lifestyle, and prepared for a change of career and the challenge of working for myself. The safety net of franchising was my personal choice, as I wanted the training and support of an established network.”

A lover of pets, Mr Cartmale read about Oscar Pet Foods in a newspaper article and then began his own research.
He added: “I was impressed with the concept of home delivery, the quality foods and the honesty of Oscar as a company; enough to make use of my redundancy payment as part of my investment.”
